Chaos erupted in Kawempe South on Saturday when furious residents nearly lynched parliamentary aspirant Nyanzi Fred, dramatically rejecting his bid for the 2026 elections.
Witnesses say the mob, chanting and jeering, cornered Nyanzi, accusing him of being a complete outsider with no stake in the community he seeks to represent.
“He is neither a resident nor someone who grew up here. He has no idea what we go through,” an enraged local shouted as the standoff escalated.
The crowd’s anger reflects a groundswell of support for rival aspirant Roy Ssemboga, who many residents insist is the only candidate who truly understands their struggles.
The near-violent scenes have sent shockwaves through the constituency, raising questions over Nyanzi’s political future and setting the stage for a heated battle as the 2026 elections draw closer.
