Rt. Rev. Dr. Constantine Rupiny, the Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese, has suspended two priests over alleged misconduct that contravenes Church law. He made the announcement on Saturday, August 2, 2025, during his first priestly ordination ceremony at Nebbi Catholic ceremonial grounds.
The affected priests, Rev. Fr. Salvatore Adraba and Rev. Fr. George Angala, are prohibited from performing any priestly duties both within and outside the diocese as investigations into the allegations continue. Bishop Rupiny said the Church will act decisively on issues that threaten its moral standing.
The ordination event saw eight priests and six deacons ordained, the first under Bishop Rupiny since his installation as the fifth bishop of Nebbi Diocese on February 22, 2025. He urged the newly ordained to remain devoted to their vocation and protect the sanctity of the Church.
Diocesan pastoral coordinator Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ocokuru encouraged parents to embrace positive parenting, saying that raising children in Godly ways fosters vocations such as priesthood. He noted that parents whose children are ordained have every reason to celebrate the achievement.
Meanwhile, Sam Okaba, the head of the diocesan laity, said priesthood is a divine calling to serve others rather than a career. He called on priests to demonstrate commitment, humility, and self-sacrifice in serving their communities.
