Three medical workers have been remanded to Luzira Prison for allegedly causing the death of 37-year-old Ritah Nansubuga after a botched cesarean operation at Sun Set Consults Clinic in Mulago.
The suspects, Dr. Henry Francis Kadaga, Joel Kyowanika, and Hassan Budhugo, denied charges of manslaughter and conspiracy to commit a felony when they appeared before Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi.
A fourth suspect, businessman Ahmed Lutaaya Kaleebu, remains at large.
The arrests followed a complaint filed by Nansubuga’s relatives to the State House Health Monitoring Unit on September 4, 2025. Investigators say the clinic lacked both qualified personnel and essential equipment to handle the operation.
Nansubuga, a former nursing officer in Dubai, is survived by a three-week-old baby boy. The trio will return to court on October 8, 2025, for a bail hearing.
